Studio Notes

Welcome to my home studio.

Here I share what’s happening behind the scenes, the changing light, works in progress, small life moments, and the gentle pace of creating in a world that often feels rushed.

After weeks of grey skies and rain, the sun has begun returning to BC. The air is still crisp, but the light spilling into my home studio feels different now, softer, brighter, and full of promise. From my window, I can see the Fraser River, snow capped mountains, and a sky often dotted with cotton candy clouds, a view that never fails to remind me how fortunate we are to be surrounded by such nature. Each day the sun lingers a little longer, quietly hinting that a new season is on its way.

The year began with a gentle mix of excitement and slowing down. A bout of flu passed through our home, and my son started daycare, a milestone that brought more emotions than I expected. The first days apart carried their own quiet ache, and I found comfort wandering through nearby parks, beneath tall trees and soft winter light. Those slow walks became moments of breathing space, where inspiration quietly returned.

It was there that the neighborhood trees began finding their way into my paintings. Lately, my studio has been filled with trails and scenes inspired by British Columbia. The process has been slow. The shifting light and endless greens demanded patience, but every moment spent painting feels grounding. The work I am creating now involves careful detailing, reminding me once again that good things take time.

The studio itself feels calm and warm these days, filled with soft sunlight and the faint scent of paint. It is a quiet place to pause, breathe, and notice the small changes happening outside the window, the sky brightening, the days stretching a little longer, and the first signs of a new season quietly approaching.

Spring is just around the corner. Soon the neighborhood will begin to stir with color again after the long winter. The days are slowly stretching, and the evenings now linger with soft golden light. Before long, the skies will fill with glowing sunsets, fresh greens will return to the trees, and the familiar rhythm of the seasons will gently shift once again.

For now, I am savoring this quiet transition. The returning light, the promise of longer days, and the small signs of renewal outside my window. In the studio, I continue to paint slowly and thoughtfully, letting the season unfold in its own time. Thank you for visiting this little corner of my world. I hope that here, even for a moment, you can pause, breathe, and slow down with me.

Love

Ritika
